Mahmood Covers Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song”
Italian singer-songwriter Mahmood has paid homage to Bob Marley with a cover of “Redemption Song”.
The track follows up “Eternantena”, which was released on March 28th.
Mahmood said, “Redemption Song is a song to which I am very fond of, one of my favorites of Bob Marley. I will do it in a more intimate, piano and vocals, a bit different from the original. I hope you like it”
The original of the song is included on Bob Marley and the Wailers' twelfth album “Uprising”, which was released in 1980.
At the time he wrote the song, circa 1979, Bob Marley had been diagnosed with the cancer in his toe that later took his life.
The widow of Bob Marley, Rita Marley said, "he was already secretly in a lot of pain and dealt with his own mortality, a feature that is clearly apparent in the album, particularly in this song".
To date, the song is covered by many artists including Beyoncé, Elisa, John Legend, Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder, Lauryn Hill, Rihanna, Johnny Cash, U2, Ben Harper, Pearl Jam, and Bob Geldof.- source : Spark Chronicles
