Beyoncé Premieres New Song “Spirit” from Disney’s “The Lion King” Soundtrack
- Beyoncé premiered a new song “Spirit” with the accompanying music video from original motion picture “The Lion King” soundtrack and the companion album “The Lion King: The Gift”.
“The Lion King” is remake of Disney's traditionally animated 1994 film of the same name. Directed by Jon Favreau, starring the voices of Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alfre Woodard, Billy Eichner, John Kani, John Oliver and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, as well as James Earl Jones reprising his original role as Mufasa.
On the soundtrack, all music composed by Hans Zimmer and all songs written by Elton John and Tim Rice.
Meanwhile, “The Lion King: The Gift” comprises of 14-track and is inspired by The Lion King remake.
Beyoncé said, “Each song was written to reflect the film’s storytelling that gives the listener a chance to imagine their own imagery, while listening to a new contemporary interpretation.” Both albums and the film are set to be released on July 19th.
The video is filled with breathtaking scenes from the animal kingdom, along with shots of the singer standing side-by-side with her backup dancers, and holding her seven-year-old daughter Blue Ivy’s hand.
“The soundtrack is a love letter to Africa, and I wanted to make sure we found the best talent from Africa and not just, you know, use some of the sounds and did my interpretation of it,” Beyoncé explained. “I wanted it to be authentic to what is beautiful about the music in Africa. A lot of the drums, the chants — all of these incredible new sounds mixed with some of the producers from America, we’ve kind of created our own genre. And I feel like the soundtrack, it becomes visual in your mind,” she continued. “It’s a soundscape, it’s more than just the music because each song tells the story of the film.”
