  • World Surf League: Gabriel Medina & Caroline Marks Win Rip Curl Narrabeen Classic

  • World Surf League the Championship Tour the 3rd stop, Rip Curl Narrabeen Classic took place at Narrabeen, New South Wales, Australia between April 16 and 20, 2021.


    This time, former 3-time world champion Mick Fanning was back to the competition for the first time on three years.
    In Rip Curl Narrabeen Classic Men, Gabriel Medina (BRA) defeated Conner Coffin (USA) in the Final and claimed his first victory of 2021 season. Also this result marks he took the third podium in a row, so far.
    “I finally could surf the way I wanted to in a final, just with waves and stick my airs, that felt really good,” Gabriel Medina said. “It feels good to win, I was missing this feeling.”
    Conner Coffin took down currently point leader of the tour, Italo Ferreira (BRA), Kanoa Igarashi(JPN), Griffin Colapinto (USA), and advanced to the Final since the 2016 MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal, but was runner-up. Conner Coffin and Frederico Morais (PRT) were 3rd, each.
    Italo Ferreira was defeated by Conner Coffin in Round of 16 and moved down to 2nd on 2021 Men's Championship Tour rankings. Gabriel Medina moved up to No. 1 to replace Italo Ferreira.

    In Rip Curl Narrabeen Classic Women, Caroline Marks (USA) and Tatiana Weston-Webb (BRA) advanced to the Final for the first time of this season, respectively.
    Especially, Tatiana Weston-Webb eliminated currently tour ranking number one Carissa Moore (HAW) on the Semifinals with tube riding and moved on the Final.
    Caroline Marks defeated Tatiana Weston-Webb with 18.77 points and took the first victory since the 2019 MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal.
    “I'm just so grateful to be here, the crowd has been amazing. I don't even know what to say, I'm over the moon,” Caroline Marks said.
    Courtney Conlogue (USA) and Carissa Moore were 3rd, each. This result marks Carissa Moore is still lead on top of the rankings.
    The Tour will now head to Western Australia, for the Boost Mobile Margaret River Pro presented by Corona and Rip Curl Rottnest Search presented by Corona.
