Maisyn Releases Debut EP “Cool Grl”: Streaming
Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Jessi Mason, aka Maisyn released her debut EP “Cool Grl” on September 21, 2021.
The EP comprises of 6-track, including preceding singles “Pool Party”, “8.20” and “Better Being Heartless”.
She worked with Grammy-nominated engineer/producer Joey Messina-Doerning on the EP.
Her music is relatable to many while remaining uniquely her own. Each song explores aspects of these themes from childhood to the present, the result is a body of work that details adolescence into adulthood with pure pop piano melodies and a vocal style that is both vulnerable and mature.
Maisyn said of the EP, “Last September I thought a lot about how to best reflect myself in my music - spent hours and hours drafting what stories I wanted to tell and how to tell them authentically. It's been a year since then and I'm very excited to share my EP 'Cool Grl' - I am very proud of it! The songs on this EP are particularly personal and hit some sore spots, but producing them with the best collaborator Joey Messina-Doerning and sharing them with you has been SUCH a joy. This project has given me a sense of purpose this year, and I'm very grateful for that.”- Maisyn explained of some tracks for the EP.
“8.20”
“For me, '8.20' articulates how it feels to know you're going to lose someone but to love them anyway. Sometimes, I really struggle with letting my mind wander into the past or future, but I think it's important to care about people in the present tense.”
“Pool Party”
“I gave myself permission to reach for the darkest places, and I wound up with a song about the subtle invasiveness and shame of body dysmorphia. Once I started actually speaking to my experience the song took shape effortlessly. I'll just say that I'm most excited about this song because it captures a large part of my life that I've only recently been able to articulate, and it feels like such a relief to have finally found the words.”
“Better Being Heartless”
“I'm deeply sensitive and analytical, and sometimes it dawns on me how much time I spend assessing and reassessing scenarios in my head. 'Better Being Heartless' kind of tells the story of an alter-ego, a girl who rips her heart out of her chest and doesn't consider the consequence. In the context of this song the idea of being 'heartless' is actually about relinquishing control and living on my own terms.”
“Cool Grl”
“I think Cool Grl is a coming-of-age story in the truest sense -it's pieces of my childhood, my tumult, my trauma, and my heartbreak that outline a story I'm really proud to share.” - source : Apple Music
