  • David Gilmour Announces New Album “Luck and Strange”, Premieres New Song “The Piper's Call” on BBC Radio 2

  • British rock band Pink Floyd's guitarist and singer-songwriter David Gilmour has announced his fifth solo album “Luck and Strange” will be released on September 6, 2024.

It is his first album in nine years since the 2015 album “Rattle That Lock”.
The album comprises a 9-track, including eight new original songs and a cover of the Montgolfier Brothers’ “Between Two Points”.
The majority of the album’s lyrics are by his wife Polly Samson.
Polly Samson said, “It’s written from the point of view of being older; mortality is the constant.”
David Gilmour added, “We spent a load of time during and after lockdown talking about and thinking about those kind of things.”

He recorded the album with co-producer Charlie Andrew over five months in Brighton and London.
David Gilmour said of working with Charlie Andrew, “We invited Charlie to the house, so he came and listened to some demos and said things like, ‘Well, why does there have to be a guitar solo there?’ and ‘Do they all fade out? Can’t some of them just end?' He has a wonderful lack of knowledge or respect for this past of mine. He’s very direct and not in any way overawed, and I love that. That is just so good for me because the last thing you want is people just deferring to you.”
  • Also, David Gilmour's son Charlie Gilmour, Gabriel Gilmour, and daughter Romany Gilmour joined in the album.
He said, “Polly and I have been writing together for over 30 years and the Von Trapped live streams showed the great blend of Romany’s voice and harp-playing and that led us into a feeling of discarding some of the past that I’d felt bound to and that I could throw those rules out and do whatever I felt like doing, and that has been such a joy.”

  • From the album, David Gilmour premiered the first single called “The Piper's Call” on BBC Radio 2 The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show.
The track was written by David Gilmour and Polly Samson. Produced by David Gilmour and Charlie Andrew.
The accompanying music video was directed by Gavin Elder, who filmed during the making of ‘the album at Ely Cathedral, Gilmour's houseboat studio Astoria and in Brighton.
The video features David Gilmour, Charlie Andrew, Polly Samson, Romany Gilmour, Gabriel Gilmour, drummer Steve Gadd, bassist Guy Pratt, engineer Matt Glasbey, keyboard player Rob Gentry and Wesley the dog.
