Jordan Rakei Premieres New Song “Freedom” on BBC Radio 1
New Zealand-Australian singer-songwriter Jordan Rakei premiered a new song “Freedom” on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Clara Amfo.
The song will appear on his upcoming fifth studio album, following the release of “Flowers” last October.
Jordan Rakei co-wrote the song with Alhaji Waziri Oshomah and produced the track.
Jordan Rakei told Clara Amfo about the song, “So 'Freedom', it's funny when I was starting out writing this track, it's sort of about embracing the childlike energy I had lyrically, but also musically. When I was writing this song, I sort of like getting back in touch with my original roots like hip hop and soul music. And just wanted to have fun a bit more with that sort of genre. And this is talking about that energy of like, being a child free care of anything going on no troubles in the world. It's just like embracing that energy is sort of like starting a new year, with more positivity, a lot of my musics very introspective and dark, so I wanted to take a twist on it and bring good vibes.”- He continued, “And that's what happened when I was writing this song. We're sort of going back to this 13, 14, 15 years old. Usher, Omarion like Chris Brown and Mario, it's like old school R&B. And that's like, what my roots are and I just wanted to like, embrace that good vibes just like have that my energy.”
