BEKA Releases New Song “Vulnerable”
London-based alt-pop singer-songwriter BEKA released a new song “Vulnerable” on July 28, 2023.
The song is a sequel to “More Than Friends”, which is featured on the 2021 EP “I'll Be There”.
The track received its first play during BBC Radio 1's Future Pop with Mollie King.
It was written by Rebeka Prance, Fiona Bevan, and Gil Lewis, who also produced the track.
BEKA said of the song, “'Vulnerable' started after being asked 'what are you afraid to write about'? and I found myself saying “love”. Has it been talked about too much? Was it too boring? How do you write about the reality of what it is to keep a vow to someone… the unsexy bits? I've seen a lot of love fail and I've lost a lot of people I love, but still, there is nothing quite like leaning into the vulnerability of love.”- She continued, “Musically we wanted to mirror the slow, creeping in, and then the all encompassing feeling that is love and vulnerability. The feeling that makes you want to just wail a bit then speak quietly, but also something that feels like this very private anthem in your heart. 'Vulnerable' is line by line so many things I feel, and I guess, it feels pretty vulnerable to be able to finally put it in a song.”

BEKA shared on social media about the song, “Last year on my👰🏽♀️anniversary I woke up early to head back to London to write with Gil Lewis & Fiona Bevan. After the usual cups of tea & nattering Fiona stopped and asked 'what are you afraid to write about?' & I heard myself say love.
My music always comes my internal world and somehow on my anniversary the topic of 'love' felt tough? Has it been talked about too much? Was it too 'done'? How do I write about the reality… all the unsexy bits?
I married my childhood sweetheart and have been through those honeymoon highs, into the bit where you're stood so close you start to see the ugly... and then you're so bought in, you have to start showing yours too...
...Vulnerable❤️🔥 was born as a part 2 of 'More Than Friends' the what happens next...
We're shown so many beautiful sides of love in art and culture but honestly, it can feel like when I really started caring and had to open up, what was on the other side was so scary, Hollywood hadn't quite prepared me. The casual combustion into tears thinking about Jordan because of how much he feels like a part of my skin, the foreboding joy, the checking he's still breathing in the night.
I've seen a lot of love 'fail' and I've lost a lot of people I love and yet there is still nothing quite like leaning into vulnerability. Finding myself saying things, feeling things, doing things, I wouldn't ever have if it hadn't been for this rare magic thing.” - source : Apple Music
