Eric Clapton & Jeff Beck Release Cover of “Moon River”
British guitarist and singer-songwriter Eric Clapton released a cover of the classic “Moon River” with the late British guitarist Jeff Beck on May 12, 2023.
Both guitarists recorded the song in January 2022, which is one of the last studio recordings Jeff Beck committed to tape before his death.
Jeff Beck passed away from a bacterial meningitis infection at a hospital near Riverhall on January 10 2023, at the age of 78.
The original version of the song was written by Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer, performed by Audrey Hepburn in the 1961 film “Breakfast at Tiffany”.
The cover version was produced by Eric Clapton and Simon Climie. The accompanying animated music video was directed by Nevil Bernard.
“In January 2022, Eric and I recorded a version which was more of a ballad – and naturally the guitar and vocals were brilliant,” Simon Climie recalled. “When we were happy with the track, Eric asked me to send it over to Jeff. Jeff loved it. And soon after that in the spring of 2022, Jeff added his unmistakable guitar part. It knocked us off our feet.”
- The song is part of a double-A side, including a new song “How Could We Know” with Simon Climie, Judith Hill and Daniel Santiago as the B-side.
“Over the years with the festivals and albums we've worked on, there have been many stunning collaborations,” Simon Climie, added. “I couldn't dream of a more incredible lineup for 'How Could We Know' than Eric Clapton, Judith Hill, and Daniel Santiago.”
Eric Clapton will appear on Jeff Beck tribute concerts at the Royal Albert Hall in London on May 22 and 23, 2023.
The concert features Rod Stewart, Imelda May, Gary Clark Jr, Derek Trucks, Joss Stone, Johnny Depp, Rhonda Smith, Anika Nilles, and Robert Stevenson.
Also, Eric Clapton has announced the 2023 Crossroads Guitar Festival set to take place September 23rd and 24th in Los Angeles, California at Crypto.com Arena.
