POLUN Releases Debut EP “Trillium”
Toronto-based singer-songwriter and producer POLUN released his highly-anticipated debut EP “Trillium” on March 24, 2023.
POLUN is known as songwriter and producer under name Terence “TEE” Lam, who co-wrote Drake and Rihanna's 2016 “Too Good”, Alessia Cara's 2015 “Here” and Kaskade's and Meghan Trainor's 2019 “With You”.
The EP comprises 7-track, with guest appearances from Gracie Ella, Atom Martin, Bones & Bridges, Anthony Arthur, and Jocelyn Alice, and featuring guest appearance from LU KALA. Produced TEE.
POLUN said of the EP, “My debut EP inspired by my wife and I's decade-long relationship. It's named after the place where I proposed to her and captures the essence of our journey with its highs and lows.”
He continued, “Trillium captures the recognition that life, like relationships, is imperfect and has its share of ups and downs. I hope that my music inspires you to appreciate the journey and all the feelings that come with it.”- POLUN explained about some tracks for the EP.
“Love U Better” with Atom Martin
“'Love U Better' is a groovy and danceable track I collaborated on with Atom Martin. The song's unique vibe is established by a four-on-the-floor beat coupled with a pulsing bassline over beautiful guitars. It's about how life is better with your significant other… I wanted to make a song about this realization and how you'll do everything in your power to make sure they never leave you. Songs like this tend to be sad and slow so I wanted to change the narrative and put a positive spin on it - because loving someone better should be a happy thing that's celebrated! I wanted to put a part of my proposal in “Love U Better” so I took an audio snippet from a video I made at the Trillium Resort and snuck it into the intro. If you listen carefully, you'll hear it briefly with the waves crashing and birds chirping.“ -
“Takes Me Over” with Anthony Arthur
“'Takes Me Over,' is a song that captures the inexplicable feelings of being spellbound to love. It's a dark, energetic dance-pop tune contrasted with an emotionally beautiful yet powerful vocal performance by my good friend and long-time collaborator Anthony Arthur. This song ultimately reflects on the all-consuming emotions that take over with the realization that against better judgment, you've given everything to someone whose heart isn't in it anymore. This is the third single from my upcoming debut EP, Trillium. 'Takes Me Over' has a special place in my heart, as it was one of the first songs I made with Anthony (co-written with Jocelyn Alice) and it's the longest time I've ever spent working on a song (six years on and off)!”
“Higher Ground” with Gracie Ella
“'Higher Ground' combines all the things I love about dance, pop, and R&B music. I knew I wanted a playful yet sexy vocal to complement the slower tempo of the groove. As soon as I heard Gracie's voice on the track, it just felt right. Her sultry and soulful voice was the perfect finishing touch on this bop!”
“Today” featuring LU KALA
“'Today' is a powerful song about embracing your vulnerability in a relationship that's slipping away. Love blinds us all and we wrote this tune to remind everyone that it's OK to forget the world and give in to your emotions.”
