Dizzy Releases New Song “Birthmark”
Canadian indie pop band Dizzy, consisting of Katie Munshaw (vocals), Alex Spencer (guitar), Mackenzie Spencer (bass), Charlie Spencer (drums), released a new song “Birthmark” along with a music video on January 18, 2023.
The track was written by Charlie Spencer, Alexander Spencer, Mackenzie Spencer, Katie Munshaw, and David Pramik.
Katie Munshaw said of the song. “The song is from the point of view of someone I love who went through their first heartbreak last year. I remember we were laying in bed one night and they said they didn’t feel so bad until it was time to go to sleep. I thought that was so sad,”
The accompanying music video was directed by Boy Wonder, who filmed in a farm field in western Ontario.
“The ‘Birthmark’ video is meant to be a visual representation of the saying ‘dancing with the devil.’ I wanted the visuals to feel more like a nightmare than a music video, hence its lack of narrative. We shot the video in a farm field in western Ontario so a lot of cow shit was stepped on to get these beautiful shots which I think is hilarious and fitting.”
- Katie Munshaw shared on social media, “In 2020 I found myself on the sidelines of a nightmarish brake up. That pain was the catalyst for many late night drives with my friends, screaming songs out of the windows of my mum's SUV. Songs that eerily understood the complexity of the feelings being felt. Taylor Swift - 'Happiness', Sara Bareilles - 'Gravity', and sooo many more. 'holy shitttt how did she know that about me?' my friend and I would whisper and giggle to each other in between verses. Since then I've learned there is comfort in realizing most of our pain is not unique. Of course, misery loves company, and even more, misery is dampened by a light at the end of a dark tunnel. I hope maybe Birthmark can be that for someone. Maybe you. A faraway beckoning creature promising healing if you can just stomach this day, and this one, and this one.”
