American singer-songwriter FLETCHER released her highly-anticipated debut album “Girl Of My Dreams” on September 16, 2022.
It is her first project in two years since the 2020 EP “The S(ex) Tapes”.
The album comprises 13-track, produce by Alex Hope, Ali Payami, Jennifer Decilveo, Jesse Shatkin, Kito, Malay, Marshmello, One Love, Pink Slip, Ryan Marrone and SLY.
“This has been my narrative of growth over the last two years; the pain evolves from nasty heartbreak into some love for yourself,” FLETCHER said of the album. “So much of my past work has been focused on other people and on my relationships: all the people who have broken. For my debut album it felt right to do a deeper dive into self-exploration, and all the different facets that make up who I am. I wanted it to be the most honest, raw, and complete representation of the complex and sensitive-ass Pisces that I've always been. It took a long time and a lot of reflection to create a body of work like that, but it's important to me that my music comes directly from lived experience.”
She added, “My writing has always mirrored where I'm at in my life, and the phases that I'm in — and so the track list very intentionally starts with 'Sting' and ends with 'For Cari'. I wanted to show what the growth process looks like for me.”
FLETCHER explained of some tracks for the album.
“Becky's So Hot”
“I wrote 'Becky's So Hot' a couple years ago after I was creeping on my ex's new girlfriend's Instagram while I was in the studio,” Fletcher said of the song. “I accidentally liked a picture of her wearing a vintage t-shirt of my ex's, one that I've worn before. The complexities of moving on were something I wanted to explore and it felt more interesting to me to write something from the perspective of being in in awe of her; sort of like 'damn… it kinda stings that she's so hot, but I can't even be mad about it because I get it…she's hot.' Girl Of My Dreams picks up where THE S(EX) TAPES leaves off and weaves through my dreams, fears, fantasies, messy moments and all the fleeting feelings in between. It paints a picture of how pain can evolve and so can you.”
“Better Version”
“track 5. one of my favorite songs i've ever written. the idea of 2 people moving on and someone else getting the 'better version' of both of you is a concept that's always hurt my heart. all the things you wanted to work on, all the ways you wanted to heal and show up differently in a relationship. something i wanted to capture while i was feeling it at the time. wrote this from a very sad space, but sharing it now unapologetically as a better version of myself is empowering for me.”
