Sophie Auster Releases New Song “Hey Girlfriend”
American singer-songwriter Sophie Auster will release her upcoming EP “Dancing With Strangers” on May 6, 2022.
It is her first project in three years since the 2019 album “Next Time”.
From the EP, she unveiled the second single called “Hey Girlfriend” on March 18, 2022, following “Let's Get Lost” released back in January.
It was written by Sophie Auster and Nick Block. She has already filmed the music video for the song directed by Theodore Rex King and Spencer Ostrander, which will be premiered soon.
Sophie Auster said of the song, “I wrote Hey, Girlfriend about deep attachments between non-sexual female friends that include attraction, jealousy, and love. There is no word in English for a passionate non-sexual friendship between women. Scholars have a term called “Romantic friendship”, but it is not widely known or used in popular culture. I wanted to write this song about the feeling of loss after I drifted apart from my best friend growing up. I think it is a story that almost every woman in the world can relate to, but to my knowledge, there aren't many songs written about it.”- Photo by Spencer Ostrander
