Shawn Mendes Drops New Music Video for “It'll Be Okay”
- Canadian singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes has dropped a new music video for “It'll Be Okay”.
The video was directed by Jay Martin, who filmed in Toronto. Jay Martin has directed Shawn Mendes' “Stitches”, “Mercy”, “There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back”, “In My Blood” and “Lost In Japan”, so far.
“I'm excited for you to see this video,” Shawn Mendes said of the video. “I think it's beautiful. I think you guys are gonna love it. The video was extremely freezing cold to film. We were in Toronto, and it was nighttime, and it was freezing, and there was lots of fake snow going in my mouth. But other than that, it was pretty nice.”
He continued, “It's nice to be able to shoot in Toronto. It's nice to be able to see the skyline of the city that I live in, in a music video for the first time.”
The song was released last December. It was written by Mendes, Scott Harris, Mike Sabath, and Eddie Benjamin.
“I start to imagine a world where we don't collide,” he said. “I like the word 'collide,' I like the image of two people not just meeting in life, but two people like… We wrote this song when we were in upstate New York, and I think I was going through a time where I really just felt like I wanted to write something that felt really honest, and very true.”
He shared on social media, “I was just really craving to make music that felt super honest and super raw and was going through some hard stuff at the time. Being able to just walk around Toronto — which is where I usually go back to process things and where you'll find me in my most intimate moments — it feels like a perfect place and video for the song.”
