Shawn Mendes Premieres New Music Video for “Youth” featuring Khalid
- Canadian singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes has unveiled a new music video for “Youth” directed by Anthony Mandler.
The song features American singer-songwriter Khalid. The track premiered on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 radio show back in May.
The video was shot in New York City, featuring over 30 different inspiring young people ranging from activists, painters, dancers, gun violence survivors, musical prodigies and many more splashed against a stunning New York City backdrop. It also features a sculpture by New York-based contemporary artist Daniel Arsham.
Shawn Mendes said of the video, “For the ‘Youth’ video, we wanted to make something that would highlight and empower young people, by giving the stage to a group of extraordinary kids,” he explained. “Khalid and I wanted them to be the focus of the video, and to give them a platform, in the hope that it can inspire other young people to pursue what they love and use their voice.”
- The song is included his self-titled third studio album. It was written by Shawn Mendes, Khalid, Teddy Geiger, Geoff Warburton and Scott Harris.
Shawn Mendes said of the song, "[“Youth”] is the most important song on the album. I was touring around Europe when the events of Manchester and London happened, it was very overwhelming. I wanted to write something but it had to be about the feeling for us as a generation when one of these things happens. So I wrote a song about our youth, a feeling that can’t be taken away from us."
