Donate to support families affected by the crisis in Ukraine ➔ The Kinks Premieres Unreleased Song “Time Song”
British rock band The Kinks announced the release of a 50th-anniversary edition of their iconic album "The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society", set to drop October 26th via BMG.
The band has dropped previously unreleased song “Time Song” from the album. They performed the song live at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in London, celebrating Britain’s inclusion in the Common Market in 1973.
The band remastered the song in early 2018.
Frontman Ray Davies said of the song in a statement;
“When we played a concert at Drury Lane in ’73 to ‘celebrate’ us about to join what was called the Common Market, I decided to use the song as a warning that time was running out for the old British Empire. This song was recorded a few weeks later but never made the final cut on the Preservation Act I album. Oddly enough, the song seems quite poignant and appropriate to release at this time in British history, and like Europe itself the track its a rough mix which still has to be finessed.”- The single version of “Time Song” will be available on the new VGPS deluxe box set, including extra sleeve notes, interviews, photographs and stories of the album's production, release and cultural impact.

The Kinks was formed by brothers Ray and Dave Davies in 1964. The band was active for over 3 decades between 1964 and 1996, releasing 28 regular albums in the UK (24 studio, four live), and 30 in the USA (24 studio, four live, two compilation).
In 1990, the original four members of The Kinks were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as well as the UK Music Hall of Fame in November 2005.
In June 2018, Ray Davies stated that he, along with brother Dave, and drummer Avory, had reformed The Kinks for a new studio album and to potentially perform live. - source : Rolling Stone
