  • MotoGP Portuguese GP: Jorge Martin Wins Portuguese GP, Rookie Pedro Acosta Earns First Podium

  • The Round 2 of MotoGP 2024, Jorge Martin (Pramac Ducati) took his first victory of the season at the Algarve International Circuit in Portimão on March 24, 2024.

He led all 25 laps and dominated the race.
Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo) was runner-up after second-placed Maverick Vinales (Aprilia Racing) crashed out on the last lap.
Rookie sensation Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) took the first podium.
Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo) and Marc Marquez (Gresini Ducati) competed for the 5th place, but both riders collided on two laps to go.
Francesco Bagnaia retired, but Marc Marquez returned to the race and finished 16th.
The incident will be reviewed by the stewards after the race.
KTM riders, Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM) and Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM) finished 4th and 5th respectively.
Marco Bezzecchi (VR46 Ducati) was 6th ahead of Fabio Quartararo (Monster Yamaha) and Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing).
Local hero Miguel Oliveira (Trackhouse Aprilia) and Fabio Di Giannantonio (VR46 Ducati) rounded out the top 10.
  • Jorge Martin said, “Today, I didn't have any issues with the bike. I was feeling really good with the medium tyre already on Friday and today I knew what I was capable of. I started fast straight away, I wanted to take the lead. And then I was trying to be good with the tyres, to manage a bit the rear. And then, step-by-step, I saw that even when I was improving the lap times, Maverick and Enea were super close. At some point of the race I saw a small gap and tried my best. I did a seven, eight tenths gap and that was enough to fight for the win. I was putting the hammer out there, trying to improve lap by lap. Finally, it's a big relief after last season to win again because I feel I am competitive and I can do it again.”

Pedro Acosta said, “The team did amazing work, the bike was perfect all race. We need to improve in many areas; we need to improve in the qualifying, also in the Sprint races. But we have the first podium - today it's not red Ducati, today it's red GASGAS. We knew it wasn't going to be easy, but we have the first [podium].”
