American singer-songwriter Ani DiFranco released a new song “You Forgot to Speak” on April 23, 2024.
The song is the fourth single off of her upcoming 23rd studio album “Unprecedented Sh!t”, which is set to be released on May 17, 2024.
The track delves into the complexities of gender dynamics and the internalised oppression that can manifest in women within patriarchal societies.
It was written by Ani DiFranco and produced by BJ Burton.
Ani DiFranco said of the song, “This song is dedicated to all those out there doing the hard work of speaking up.”
The new album is her first LP in three years since the 2021 album “Revolutionary Love” and comprises a 11-track, produced by BJ Burton.
The album not only reflects the significant departure in sound presented by Ani DiFranco, but also serves as a poignant political and social commentary on the contemporary global landscape.- Ani DiFranco said of the album, “I believe there is a rhyme and a reason as to why these songs have come together in this way now and I want people to experience this album as a journey, a piece of art, without being influenced by a cacophony of surrounding narratives.”
