  • Burr Island Releases New Song “Later”

  • London-based folk duo Burr Island, consisting of Tom England and Oskar Porter, released a new song “Later” on April 5, 2024 via Left Foot Records.

The song will appear on their upcoming debut album, which is expected to be released in 2024.
The track was written by Oskar Porter and Tom England, and produced by Steve Cradock.

Oskar Porter said of the song, “'Later, you will understand how truly good these times have been' is faintly scrawled at the bottom corner of a large piece of artwork, hanging up in a corridor of a Buddhist Community that I (Oskar) used to live in. So faint, you could easily miss it. I was incredibly struck by these words and the truth of them. How we can be so future orientated, constantly planning and thinking ahead to the next 'thing', not being alive to what is actually happening in the present.”
  • He continued, “Around the same time, a friend of mine told me a personal story which I was really moved by and that inspired us to write the rest of the song. When he was just eleven, his father had come home early from work, complaining of having chest pains. Hours later he had tragically died of a heart attack. What did he do in the last moments of his life? He started to confess. He confessed he had acted harshly and been cruel to people. I've often heard when one is at the end of their life, they can experience moments of true clarity, as if they are truly seeing for the first time. Hopefully this little song can be a reminder to us all to not wait until the moment of death to realise 'how truly good these times have been'.”

  • He added, “We finished writing the song together on a little writing retreat in the Somerset countryside, after Tom had come up with the quite haunting melody, and the poignant lyrics for the chorus. We then sent some ideas over to the wonderful Steve Cradock who built upon them and created the quite stunning string section (I think we both cried a little when we first heard it ).”
