Donate to support families affected by the crisis in Ukraine ➔ Nicky MacKenzie Releases New Song “Morals”
Canadian singer-songwriter Nicky MacKenzie released the title track from her upcoming EP “Morals” on March 28, 2024.
The song is the second single off of the EP, following the release of “Comfortable” back in February.
It was written by Nicky MacKenzie, and produced by Likeminds.
The accompanying music video was directed by Leta Cushing-Woodcock.
Nicky MacKenzie said of the song, “I knew when writing the song it was going to be about learning to make decisions for yourself regardless of how it might affect your relationships and being aware of the consequences but doing it anyway. About being a people pleaser your whole life and then deciding to start saying no and walking away from situations that don't serve or even entertain you anymore. Your moral values change when you begin to prioritize yourself. You can blame your vices on others, or you can own up to them and decide to not care.”- The new EP is expected to be released in 2024.
Leaving behind the safe familiarity of adolescence, the EP is an exploration of the emotional landscape the 23-year-old singer-songwriter has traversed in the years since her debut album, 2018's Honeydew.
Adding layers to Nicky's vision is LA-based production duo Likeminds, who infused the EP with body-moving synths and percussion. -
