  • BANNERS Releases New Album “All Back to Mine”

  • Liverpool-based singer-songwriter Michael Nelson, aka BANNERS released his third studio album “All Back to Mine” on April 19, 2024 via Nettwerk.

It is first album in three yeas since the 2021 album “It's Gonna Be OK”.
The album comprises a 12-track, featuring collaboration with American singer-songwriter Lily Meola, produced by Cam Blackwood, Lorna Blackwood, Luke Niccoli and Olly Gorman.

BANNERS said of the album, “I put my heartstrings all over this album. You want to fill your life with experiences, don't you? And the more of them, the better. I can't judge what's good and what isn't anymore. All I can do is try to make something that matters.”

He continued, “I lived away from home for a little while. Quite a long time. Sometimes life is happening somewhere else and that's where you need to go. Sometimes you need to go so that you can come back. And then being back is the greatest gift you could ever be given. This album is the sound of me being back. Back with my friends and family. The most inspiring people in the most inspiring place. I think mainly this is the sound of me being happy, knowing that I'm in the place that I'm supposed to be.”
  • BANNERS explained about some track for the album.

    “Name in Lights”
“This song is like supporting a football team. Supporting your people and not asking for anything back from them. Just total belief. You're gonna turn up when they're doing their thing and you're gonna be the last one clapping when they're done.
'name in lights' is it's about believing in people really. It's knowing that everybody has it in them to do something and to be special. It's about saying to somebody that you believe in them so much. And you're going to be there on the top side, cheering their name or you're going to be the front row of the cinema when their faces on the big screen. It's also just about saying that you're doing absolutely fine. Even if it doesn't feel like you are. Everything is fine and everything will get better even if it doesn't feel like it's going to. But it's about belief in people really, because everybody has it in them to be special. As a nice idea for a song.”

  • “Have You Ever Loved Someone”
“I have a new song out and I was thinking how people might like it and people might not like it, but as long as you're just true to yourself. That's most important thing just being true to yourself and always above all just retaining your dignity is so important. Just keeping your dignity at all times.
It's a song about a love that pulls you in every direction and flips your life on its head. Can't let anything stop you from being true to yourself.. not even a parrot costume.
I've made this music video which, for some reason, I'm putting on the internet for people to look at forever. I can only apologize for my behaviour.”

    “Anywhere For You”
“Life is a journey and it's going to have its ups and downs. No relationship is simple and nothing worth doing is ever easy. Sometimes you have to let someone know that you're going to be there through it all. I decided to do that in a song but feel free to just actually tell someone to their face if you're not cripplingly shy like me. I'm hiding behind big strings and dramatic drums here but you do you. A phone message might be a nice compromise.”

    “In Your Universe”
“I think this song sounds like falling in love. The explosion of it. Feeling like the universe has created this beautiful thing for you and all you'll ever need is to be somewhere in that atmosphere.”

    “C'est La Vie”
“I wrote this song with my friends Cam and Trent about 6 months ago in Nashville. We'd spent a couple of hours trying to write something. Just the usual going down a rabbit hole that wasn't really leading anywhere and trying not to panic about it. And then I went to the bathroom and thought of this melody and sang it to them when I got back and then we wrote this song. That can happen when you're trying to write a song. In fact getting absolutely nowhere happens nearly all the time. Every time it happens you start to worry that actually you're a terrible songwriter, that anything you've done before was a total fluke and you'll never write a good one again and how are you gonna pay your rent? But you keep going, find a bit of faith in yourself from somewhere, head down a few more rabbit holes and in the end you end up somewhere good. Or at least somewhere. Whether it's good or not isn't really up to me.”

    “The Best View In Liverpool”
“I live in a place that has loads of beautiful bits. Some of the beauty is the stuff you put on postcards and is recognizable all over the world. Some of it is the type of beauty that you'd only see if you were born here. But there's nothing more beautiful than being with people you love. So the best view is wherever they are.”

“Perfectly Broken (Duet Version)” with Lily Meola
BANNERS: “I love Lily's vocals on 'Perfectly Broken.' She's brought a beautiful, raw emotion that adds a whole new layer of meaning. I didn't know the song needed it until I heard her voice, but now I think 'Perfectly Broken' would feel a little lost without her.”
Lily Meola: “BANNERS is such a wonderful artist, so getting to sing on one of his songs was very exciting for me. This one, in particular, feels like it belongs in a movie. It's so cinematic, and his voice is just the crème de la crème.”

    “Broken Hearted”
“Here's a drum fill that I'm pretty sure only I liked when we were recording it. But I shouted the loudest and now it's in the song. It has a Drum fill in it that goes exactly like this (drum sound). Now you might like my music. Or you might think that I'm a completely talentless individual. Which is a perfectly understandable position to take. And you have to admit you must be at least a little bit interested to see how (drum sound) fits in to a song.”

    “Tell You I Love You”
“I suppose some songs are the culmination of years of thinking about the world and growing as a person, declarations of the things that are fundamentally important to you and how you'd like to be remembered or judged over the years. Some are expressions of how you felt in a single moment, right then and there. That's what this song is. That moment you see that person for the first time, and everything explodes, and you have to tell them you love them. Maybe you won't even feel like this tomorrow but who really cares? All the best things happen in the moment and if you don't try then you'll never know.”

    “All That You Made Me”
“No one is anyone without other people. This is a song for the people that make you who you are. As a British lad, I find it a bit hard to tell people how much I care about them, so this is my way of doing it. I recorded this in one take which is a fun experience. You get to about 30 seconds from the end, realize you haven't messed it up yet, and that's when the urge to really ruin it kicks in. I really like this performance, it feels really honest.”
