Montreal-based composer and producer of new classical music Erik Lankin released a new song “Feathers and Wax” on April 2, 2024.
The song is the second single off of his upcoming debut album “The Icarus Album”, following the first single “Daedalus Requiem”.
The track is inspired by his father's death by suicide. It was written by Devon Bate and Erik Lankin.
The accomapnying music video was directed by Franklin López.
Erik Lankin said of the song, “The worst things you experience in life have the ability to break you. They also can become fuel for your greatest creations and accomplishments. Sometimes they do both. “Feathers and Wax” comes from my grief over my father's death by suicide. I reimagined the myth of Daedalus so that it was him and not Icarus who fell into the sea. Leaving Icarus alone, grieving and aloft on the broken wings he inherited. This song tells of the invention of the wings and the liftoff towards freedom.”- He added, “We had to choose between recording the track on a half million dollar Fazioli piano or my dad's baby grand Yamaha which he left me when he died. In the end we made the sentimental choice.”
The debut album is expected to be released in 2024. -
