British singer-songwriter YUNGBLUD released a new song “Abyss” on March 29, 2024.
It is theme song for Japanese anime TV series “Kaiju No. 8”, which is based on Japanese manga of the same name by Naoya Matsumoto.
Kaiju No. 8 (Japanese: 怪獣8号), also known in English as Monster #8, is a Japanese manga series.
The story follows Kafka Hibino, a man who, after ingesting a kaiju, gains the ability to turn into one and now must navigate using his power while trying to become part of an organization that eliminates kaiju to fulfill a promise he made with a childhood friend.
YUNGBLUD co-wrote the song with American rock band Imagine Dragons' Dan Reynolds and recorded it in Tokyo last year.
“I'm really honored to have made a piece of music to soundtrack it,” YUNGBLUD said of the song. “So we studio in Tokyo worked all night. When the song came up, and it was a really exciting thing. I think it's really cool. I think a piece of music we made really complements the storyline the arc of the story and the mood and the feeling of this manga.”- He continued, “We decided to call this song 'Abyss', because it literally represents what Kafka Hibino is going through. literally lost in a place trying to figure out who they are, who they're going to be what they represent, trying to find their way in the world, how they're going to fight for God even though they feel that they are part of the darkness. I think that's something I go through. I think we want just represent that in the song because it's represented so beautifully in the story.”
He added, “A lot of people who know me know that I have a really good relationship with Dan Reynolds from Imagine Dragons, so we always create together. So the opportunity came about through Dan mentioning this to me to see if we want to work on it together.” - source : Apple Music
