Canadian singer-songwriter Maïa Davies released a new song “Lift Me Up” on April 3, 2024.
The song is a sincere, lush tale of personal growth, from heartbreak to hopefulness.
The piano-driven, melodic plea to break free from the loneliness of unmet expectations was written by Dean Hollbrough, Lyle Bell, Marcus Paquin, and Maïa Davies in Berlin at HANSA studios. Produced by Maïa Davies and Marcus Paquin.
The accompanying music video was directed by Raunie Mae Baker.
“I've summed up in song how difficult the experience of growing up has felt for me,” Maïa Davies said of the song. “For me, it's been an often isolating experience, and just to say it out loud, and pay tribute to the care my mother did her best to provide, pitfalls and all, is enormously comforting to me. I have found so much liberation in facing what is, as it is.”- Maïa Davies shared on social media, “This is the story of how I've immensely struggled to find my place in the world, and how I aim to find myself a little more every day. Growing up and into a world I've always felt a little outside of led me to struggle with my mental health a lot; when you are not quite like the others around you, it can be so alienating; and it's truly a heavy weight sometimes to feel so alone. This is equally about my hopes for a good life, one i try to fill with my strange and beautiful dreams, and true connections. We are all different and we all deserve a good place.”
