  • Sheryl Crow Releases New Album “Evolution”

  • American singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow released her twelfth studio album “Evolution” on March 29, 2024.

Before, she stated her 2019 eleventh studio album “Threads” would be her last album, and she wouldn't make any more albums going forward.
But she returned to the studio in 2023 and recorded the new album with producer Mike Elizondo.
This time, she asked Mike Elizondo to produce the record unlike her previous albums produced by herself.
The album comprises a 9-track (deluxe edition 10-track), including a cover of British singer-songwriter Peter Gabriel's “Digging In The Dirt”, featuring guest appearances from Peter Gabriel and American guitarist Tom Morello.

“I started sending just a couple of demos to Mike, but the songs just kept flowing out of me and it was pretty obvious this was going to be an album,” Sheryl Crow said of the album in a statement. “This music and these lyrics came from sitting in the quiet and writing from a deep soul place. I said I’d never make another record, thought there was no point to it. But this music comes from my soul. And I hope whoever hears this record can feel that.”
  • Sheryl Crow coninued, “I did not want to produce myself this time. There’s a point where you get tired of what you do, you recognize your tricks, you despair of them. I didn’t want to deal with the emotional toil that goes into producing, the decisions, the effort, the time, being away from my kids. Mike loved the songs I sent him and wanted to produce. He brought a fresh approach and illustrated the songs in such a cinematic way, he’s so good with that. We did things quickly, the way old records were made, wrote the whole album in a month.”

  • Sheryl Crow explained about some tracks for the album.

“Digging In The Dirt” featuring Peter Gabriel
“Peter Gabriel's 'Digging In The Dirt' has meant so musch to me. What a joy to get to record one last song for the 'Evolution' record with Mike Elizondo this week.”

    “Do It Again”
“I feel like I’ve been writing this song for thirty years. To me, life is one long exploration in how to live joyfully. It’s a work in progress.”

    “Evolution” featuring Tom Morello
“Stephen Hawking worried that A.I. would replace humans. As a mom, I want to leave a better world for my children, a healthier planet - is AI going to be a benevolent partner in these goals or not? It's unsettling, and this song deals with those anxieties.
I wrote the song with just me on guitar and vocals, sent it to Mike Elizondo and said, this is bigger than me, can you take a crack at it? To me, Tom's playing comes from some other planet. It's a cool bit of kismet that we were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in the same year, and his solo on 'Evolution' just ejects you into space.”
