British singer-songwriter and former Little Mix member Perrie Edwards released her debut solo single called “Forget About Us” under artist name Perrie on April 12, 2024.
The song is the first single off of her upcoming debut solo album, which is expected to be released in 2024.
The track was co-written by British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, along with David Hodges and Steven Solomon.
Produced by Andrew Goldstein and Steven Solomon.
Perrie Edwards recorded the song at her North London home.
Perrie Edwards said of the song in a statement, “Relationships have been a huge part of my life, and they've made me who I am now. I think it's a nice sentiment to be honest about, and it's super relatable.”- Perrie Edwards told NME why she decided to release the song as the fist single, “It just felt right. I think it just felt instinctively right and the team all agreed and as soon as like Ed sent it I thought, 'Ah that't it, it is a bit of a banger'. And I noticed myself singing it every 2 seconds around the house. I'd be like, 'What is that song again? I'm like, oh my God, it's the song.' So I just felt like it was the one.”
She explained how the song came about, saying, “So, Ed sent me the song and at the time, the lyrics and concept were very direct to what it was about. And I rang him and was like, 'Would you mind if I just tweaked little bits? I'm not going to just be on the writing credits for the craic because that gives me the ick, I hate when people do that. I don't want to take away [the fact] you produced and wrote this song [and] sent it to me. I just want to tweak it lyrically so it's more me and where I'm at in my life now.”
She added, “And he was totally cool with it, he was so supportive. He was like, 'I want you to take full ownership in it - whatever you're not comfortable with, change it, and we'll work on it from there.' So I did a session on Zoom and we kind of got it to where it is now. I'm really happy.” - The debut solo album features Ed Sheeran and British singer-songwriter RAYE.
“Going into sessions as a solo artist now and being able to say what I want and I feel is just the most amazing experience,” Perrie Edwards said of the album. “I never had the confidence to do that before, but this process has allowed me to believe in myself and explore all my different emotions and different parts of my life.”
She continued, “I'm so proud of what I've done and created. I wanted it to be fun above anything else and showcase my singing through ballads and big vocal numbers.”
