  • Amistat Releases New EP “a moment in the sun”

  • Munich-based twin brothers folk duo Amistat, Josef Prasil and Jan Prasil, released a new EP “a moment in the sun” on March 8, 2024 via Nettwerk.

The EP comprises a 6-track, produced by Lennart Damann, Jan Prasil, and Josef Prasil.
The album reflects the duo stripping things back to the basics, as they touch on day-to-day problems, with the brothers not shying away from addressing some of the hardest moments in their lives.

“The new EP is about the struggles with personal life, private life, and mental health that my brother and I have been going through over the last two years.” Jan Prasilsa said of the EP, “We're showing everyone it's totally normal to struggle, but there's always a light at the end of the tunnel. On social media, you only paint an amazing picture of the great times. However, life isn't always that way. We're acknowledging every aspect of existence—and still enjoying it.”
  • The duo continued, “This is a reminder it's okay to go through whatever you go through. We all have experiences that shape who we are. We all have our baggage. It's important to understand what's going on emotionally inside, be connected to yourself, talk about it, and not pretend everything is just great. Be vulnerable, show your emotions, and share them with your close friends. The moment you open up is real healing. It's okay to be a mess. Not everything is always rainbows and sunshine. The EP acknowledges the bad times, but reminds there are good times ahead. We're all in the same boat.”

The duo shared on social media, “We've grown very fond of this collection of songs as it's some of the most vulnerable, honest, and personal moments that we've put into words. Inspired by the fact that we all encounter challenging and difficult times and it's just fine to not be fine and to be in need of help sometimes. It's important to remember that tomorrow the sun will rise, and we will try again.”

  • Amistat explained about some tracks for the EP.

    “a moment in the sun”
“It's a reflection of our encounters with mental health struggles, inspired by personal experiences and those of our friends. The demanding life of touring—lacking routine, sleep, and healthy food, coupled with the pressure to stay creative can be exhausting. Prioritizing self-care and staying connected with loved ones is crucial to avoid burning out. Sometimes, a simple 'moment in the sun' is all you need.”

    “same old eyes”
“'Same Old Eyes' was inspired by our father and his journey to find his purpose again after recently retiring. He has been battling both physical pains and mental health challenges ever since his motorbike accident 15 years ago.”

    “better days”
“My father had a very bad motorcycle accident and almost died. “He was in a coma for a long time. When he woke up, he had trouble remembering who we were. It was rough, because we didn't know how he was going to be afterwards. It was traumatic seeing my dad—who was my hero—on his knees and losing his position as a hero in my eyes. I'm standing in the hospital at 12-years-old listening to the conversation between my family.”

    “still believe”
“We were definitely experimenting with our sound. In any partnership or relationship, you have to be the one who's strong and holds it all together sometimes. There were times when my brother and I were struggling, so we'd look to others for support. It's about admitting you need family, friends, or partners. You say, 'I'm here for you if you need me, and I hope you are too when I need you.”
