Former Little Mix, Jesy Nelson Returns With New Song “Boyz” featuring Nicki Minaj
- Former British girl group Little Mix and singer-songwriter Jesy Nelson is back with a new song “Boyz” on October 8, 2021.
This time, she reamed up with American rapper Nicki Minaj.
The song is her first single as solo artist after leaving Little Mix.
It was written by ABSOLUTELY, Amanda Atoui, Avital Margulies, Dayo Olatunji, Diddy, Youthonix, Patrick Jordan-Patrikios, Nicki Minaj and Jesy Nelson.
The track samples Black Rob, Mark Curry & Diddy's 2001 song “Bad Boy For Life”.
The accompanying music video was directed by Harry James. American rapper Sean Combs appeared on the video as a cameo.
Jesy Nelson said of the song, “'Why do I like bad boys, what is wrong with me? Why am I attracted to anyone that looks naughty?' So I messaged [production duo Loose Change] and was like 'you'll think I'm a nutter but I really want to write a song about why most women like bad boys and I want to use the Diddy song' and they were like 'let's do it'.”
She continued, “I just want to be myself and be real. I want my fans to hear that they're my stories because they genuinely are. No one has come in and told me what to write about. This is the music I've always wanted to make.”
Back in December Jesy Nelson left Little Mix due to prolonged issues with her mental health. She said, “I find the constant pressure of being in a girl group and living up to expectations very hard.”
In May 2021, she announced that she had signed a record deal with Polydor Records and that she is releasing solo music.
