Allie X Returns With New Song “Black Eye”
Canadian singer-songwriter Alexandra Hughes, aka Allie X returned with a new song “Black Eye” on October 13, 2023.
The song is her first music in three years since the 2020 sophomore album “Cape God”.
Also, the track will appear on her upcoming third studio album “Girl with No Face”, which is expected to be released in 2024.
The track was written by Alexandra Hughes and Das Kope. Produced by Allie X
Allie X said of the song, “The process of making this new music was an experiment in trusting my own creative instincts and no one else's, fighting for my freedom creatively, professionally, and personally.”
She continued, “This track and all to come is an effort to create a surreal yet truthful reflection of myself in a very strange world.”- On October 31, Allie X dropped a music video for the song. Directed by Allie X herself.
Allie X told PAPER about the video, "Parallels are drawn between art, life, good and evil and the gamification of all of it. [It's] done with a wink and a bit of camp, just like the song.”
She continued, “I usually have some sort of picture in my head. I always saw 'Black Eye' as black and shades of white, no color. I think it's one of the reasons the chess game was so instantly right for this song.”
She added,“My process is to mood board usually. In the case of this video it was less obvious to me how to style myself as well as the dancers playing chess pieces. We searched and searched 'til we finally settled on an approach.” -
