Emily Kinney Releases New Song “False Start”
American actress and singer-songwriter Emily Kinney released the second single called “False Start” from her upcoming album “Swimteam” on June 8, 2023.
Backed by finger-picked acoustic guitar and droning synths, she sings about the difficulties that can be experienced while dating and the parallels between that and the rejection that can be experienced in the TV/Film industry.
The track was written by Emily Kinney and produced by Ben Greenspan.
Emily Kinney said of the song, “'False Start' is a song about shame, embarrassment, and considering throwing in the towel. I originally thought 'False Start' would be the name of the whole album as I felt the song encompassed a lot of the themes within the album, but instead took Swimteam from the lyrics 'kinda wanna just quit swimteam entirely.'”
She continued, “I was doing some online dating during the pandemic and one of the guys I was talking to referred to his past couple relationships as false starts and it really stuck with me. Damn, like how embarrassing to be false start as opposed to a fully realized human and/or experience.”
The new album comprises 12-track and is set to be release on September 21, 2023. It is her first body of work in two years since the 2021 album “The Supporting Character”.
