Lilith Merlot Releases New EP “Shades Of Blue”
Dutch singer-songwriter Lilith Merlot released her sophomore EP “Shades Of Blue” on May 26, 2023.
It is her first project in six years since the 2017 self-titled debut EP.
She recorded the EP with producer Serge Dusault at Black Oak studio in Hellevoetsluis, Netherlands.
On the EP, Lilith Merlot delves into the deeper meanings of the colour blue.
Lilith Merlot said of the EP, “I started writing the songs on this EP after a very unexpected and painful breakup. I found myself not being able to talk about it, so I sat down behind the piano and wrote my way through it. Some of the piano ballads on this EP are quite vulnerable, but you can clearly hear a shift to a lighter shade of blue toward the end. For example, in the groovy, soulful Pop song White Lies, in which I sing: ‘I refuse to remember you in this dark shade of blue, you can take it all from me, but I’m keeping the memories.’”- Lilith Merlot shared on social media, “It’s been a year in the making and I can’t wait to share the full thing with you! Writing this EP was like writing a diary, and recording it all has been like therapy, honestly, haha (plus as you can see, it’s always fun with Serge Dusault at the studio). As you may have heard in the last few releases, these songs expose some of my darkest and 'bluest' moments of the past year. But the last two songs on this EP show that there’s always light at the end of the tunnel, and even the darkest of blues will eventually pass 🕊️”

“Easier to Fight”
“This song is about the aftermath of a big fight - waking up the morning after, regretting the words you chose & the mess you made and wondering wether you two are gonna survive this one, or could this be the beginning of the end?”
“Compromised”
“A song I wrote when I found myself stuck in anger and disbelief, may this be comforting to whomever needs it 🕊️ I hope you’ll love this song like I do.”
“Burn Your Bridges”
“A song I poured my heart and soul into, writing and recording this one was a bit of an emotional roller coaster and this is definitely my most vulnerable track so far. It’s about seeing the person you love so much burn all their bridges, burn down the life you built together, and you can’t do anything but sit back and watch it go up in flames. This song is just the first chapter of the story, there’s definitely more to come.”
“White Lies”
“One of my favorite songs called White Lies.”
“Happier Alone”
“In which I sing that I have come to realize that I actually am happier alone. I feel that that song is a great ending to Shades of Blue and a great start to a new chapter.”
