TANDM Returns With New Song “The Man in the Sea”
Toronto-based alt-pop duo TANDM, consisting of Maxine Beck-Sinderby (vocals/guitar) and Thomas Franklin (drums), returned with a new song “The Man in the Sea” on May 24, 2023.
The song is their first music in a year since a cover of Counting Crows' “Accidentally In Love”, which was released last May.
Also, the track is the first single off of their upcoming EP “Sirens”, which is set to be released in July.
It was written by Maxine Beck-Sinderby and Thomas Franklin.
The accompanying animated music video was directed by Akash Jones.
The duo said of the song, “Our new single, 'The Man in the Sea,' is a poem that Maxine wrote as an assignment in high school. It was inspired by a story from her grandmother: that what caused the ocean waves was a man with a big spoon, stirring the sea.”
They continued, “Our inspiration was to convey the sensation of a childhood belief or fantasy that shatters upon discovering the realities of the world. Similar to realizing that the tooth fairy was your parents all along; discovering that the ocean waves were not caused by a man stirring with a spoon all day / every day, however far-fetched the idea may have been, felt like a heartbreaking part of growing up.”- Photo by Kate Dockeray
