Lana Del Rey Premieres New Song “The Grants” on BBC Radio 1
American singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey premiered a new song “The Grants” on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Clara Amfo.
The song is taken from her upcoming ninth studio album “Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd”.
It was written by Lana Del Rey and Mike Hermosa. Produced by Drew Erickson, Zach Dawes, and Lana Del Rey.
“The Grants” is named after Del Rey's own family. The track opens with background singers recording the backing vocals for the song as they receive direction.
Lana Del Rey told Clara Amfo about the song, “It was really fun. I recorded it with Zach Dawes. The way it starts with the gospel singers, I think you know, because I executive produced too. So, once they were learning the chorus and they made that mistake in the beginning, I snap my finger and I was like Zach, snap that part where melody tells everyone that they messed up and put it at the top of the song, because that's how the top of the album should start. And then go right into 'tunnel', because I mean not only was it soulful, but also, so beautifully flawed, if you will, on their behalf just trying to learn it which of course on the second take they miraculously learned it perfect to me. There's so much symbolism there, because I liked the naturalness of it.”- She added, “I love the way when they get it and second time the way they say, 'the way John Denver sang', in that high harmony. I was like, 'Oh, wow.'”
The new album is set to be released on March 24, 2023.
