Katy Perry Performs “When I'm Gone” & “Never Really Over” on Saturday Night Live
American singer-songwriter Katy Perry appeared on Saturday Night Live to perform “When I'm Gone” and “Never Really Over”.
It is her first musical guest on this TV program since 2017. Also, American actor Willem Dafoe hosted on the sketch show for the first time.
“When I'm Gone” was released last December, in which she worked with Swedish DJ Alesso. The music video for the song premiered on half-time of the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship on January 10, 2022.
Katy Perry said of the song, “When it comes to my music videos we all know I like to push the boundaries and myself, and create unique opportunities for my fans to see them. ESPN and especially College GameDay hold a special place in my heart, so partnering with Alesso to become the first artists to ever debut a global music video within a live event on ESPN made for a perfect and natural pairing.”
“Never Really Over” was released in 2019. She collaborated with Russian-German DJ Zedd on the track.
She said, “I worked on this song when I was on tour, and I don't really do that. It's produced by Zedd, and I brought him the song and he said, 'Wow it sounds amazing.' Specifically, the lyrics in the second verse that I really love is: 'I guess I should try to go to therapy to try to get you out of my brain, I can't even go on the internet, without even checking your name.'”
This time, she performed the song with an acoustic.- led8kSxI4DA
