OneRepublic Performs “Counting Stars” & “Run” at Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve 2021
- American pop rock band OneRepublic appeared on Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve 2021 to perform “Counting Stars” and “Run”.
“Counting Stars” is included on their third studio album “Native”, which was released in 2013.
It was written by Ryan Tedder, and produced by Ryan Tedder and Noel Zancanella.
The song has been one of their most successful singles. It reached No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the UK Singles chart.
The band said of the song, “laying in bed awake at night when you're stressed out of your mind, thinking 'How are we gonna make ends meet? How are we gonna pay the bills?' You know, all those things you wanna do with your life – how are we gonna make them work? How's this actually gonna happen or come to pass? So, instead of counting sheep, we're counting stars.”
“Run” was released from their fifth studio album “Human” in May 2021. It was co-written and produced by frontman Ryan Tedder with bassist Brent Kutzle, John Nathaniel and Tyler Spry.
Frontman Ryan Tedder said of the song, “This song is about all the negative press. Everything that is on the news sucks ass 99 percent of the time: '“The world is gonna end, the economy is gonna crash, the sky is falling, everything is so bad…” and my reaction to that is – horse-blinders. Run. Go straight through it, cut through all the noise and B.S. Go do what you want, where you want, when you, how you want. Don't listen to anybody else. Have fun while you're doing it because if you're chasing stuff that is not fun, it is not sustainable. Do what makes you happy, tell everybody else to shut up. Turn the news off, get off socials, whatever is making you upset or depressed. All that nonsense is just going to slow you down. Life is short, live it while you're alive. We're not promised another day.”
