Kojey Radical Premieres New Song “Gangsta” on BBC Radio 1
British singer-songwriter Kojey Radical premiered a new song “Gangsta” on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Clara Amfo.
The song will appear on his upcoming album.
It was written by Ed Thomas, Jay Weathers and Kwadwo Adu Genfi Amponsah. Produced by Ed Thomas, Jay Weathers and Kwame KZ Kwei- Armah.
Kojey Radical shared on social medis, “the second single from my upcoming ALBUM! Is officially OUT NOW! Probably one of the most personal records I’ve dropped in a long time. I dedicate this record to my mother and all the strong women who helped raise, nurture and support me growing up…The real GANGSTAS in my life.”
Kojey Radical told Clara Amfo about the song, “I wanted to throw people off with the title a little bit. For me, I think for generations, we've taken words, we've reclaimed them, repurpose them. We've given them new meanings and new life and I felt like this record was the most fitting in the album. I wanted to kind of get a lot more personal, I guess speak about older women. Especially the black women that have helped me kind of get to the point where I'm at today. And there's no there's no bigger one than the gangster self. The queen bee. There my mom's the biggest gangster that I know. Yeah, it's a song. It's just a dedication. You know, I'm saying not only to my mom, but just just mothers. Just women in general. Now, just hold it down. So you said appreciation, so more so than anything.”- He continued, “My mom loves it. My mom loves it like and like, she really enjoyed being a part of this album process, you know, like our project back in the day called 23 winners, which was me trying to find a relationship with my dad. And the process of that I think a lot of people attributed my wisdom to my dad, but in reality who the wisest life lessons that I've got came from my mom to say and so it's just nice to kind of be able to put her on a pedestal for a bit she's been loving it all the shoots the first students getting her makeup done on a nice cloth and all that.”
