The Lumineers Releases New Album “III”: Streaming
- American folk rock band The Lumineers released their third studio album “III” on September 13, 2019.
The album consists of three chapters, each focusing on a different main character of the fictional Sparks family.
The first part features an alcoholic woman named Gloria Sparks. The second part shows Gloria's grandson Junior Sparks. The third part tells about Gloria's son Jimmy Sparks, who grows up and becomes an alcoholic and a father himself.
The theme of the album is addiction. "It's the family secret and it's a taboo," the band's lead vocalist Wes Schultz said.
Drummer Jeremiah Fraites said, "With drug addiction or alcoholism it really affects the individual and then it has a sort of fallout effect — similar to the effects of a radiation bomb — over time and over years and years, it continually tends to affect people's loved ones."
On the latest album, the band tracks how this disease progresses through three generations.
The band performed “III” including a bleak story at their live. "Every show you ever go to, someone's talking about getting their heart broken, most likely, and there are people who put their arms around each other." Wes Schultz said. "Coming together for a concert or hearing someone say something that you only thought you felt; I think that's why it's positive even though it's counterintuitive that heartbreak music would be when people cheer the loudest."
