American singer-songwriter Melanie Martinez is back. She released her sophomore album “K-12” on September 6, 2019 via Atlantic Records & Warner Music Group. It is her first album in four years.
Also, the album is an accompanying film of the same name. The accompanying music film is written and directed by herself made its cinema debut in Los Angeles on September 3rd and then in select cinemas worldwide on September 5th.
The album and the film features her character Cry Baby. “My heart is incredibly full,” says Melanie Martinez, “To be able to show people what I’ve been working on these past few years, and to be given the opportunity to create a feature film and have full creative control over every aspect of this project is a huge blessing and I’m beyond grateful.”
A synopsis for the film, "Cry Baby, a strong and sensitive girl, is sent off to a disturbing sleepaway school that’s hidden underneath a grandiose façade. Luckily, she has a sweet and unapologetic best friend who sticks up for her when she gets bullied by the other students whose brains are under control by the Principal and his wicked staff. With the help of the magical friends they meet along the way, as well as an Angelic Spirit Guide, they are able to gain the strength they need to fight off the school’s belligerent patriarchal conditioning."- IEoEaBDn8F4

After the release of the album, she performed “Strawberry Shortcake2” on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Melanie Martinez has planned two more movies to follow K-12 which will be accompanied by albums.
And she announced “The K-12 Tour” this fall with unique theatrical performances. The tour kicks off at Union Market DC in Washington on October 12th.
“It’s been a bit since I’ve been on tour and I’m incredibly excited to bring the movie to life on stage,” she says. “I’m putting all of my energy into making it not only visually stunning and pleasing to the senses but also a fun learning experience and a safe place to express yourself and be accepted for exactly who you are.”
