  • Ella Mai Performs “Boo’d Up” & “Trip” on Saturday Night Live

  • British singer-songwriter Ella Mai appeared on Saturday Night Live, where she performed her smash hit songs “Boo’d Up” and “Trip”.

This marks her musical guest debut on the sketch show. The episode was hosted by Beautiful Boy star Steve Carell.
“Boo’d Up” was released back in February as the lead single from the third EP "Ready". Also the song appeared on her self-titled debut album. Remix version features Nicki Minaj and Quavo, which was released in July.
It was written by Larrance Dopson, Joelle James, DJ Mustard and Ella Mai.
Ella Mai said of the song, “My initial inspiration for 'Boo’d Up' was literally what the words are. It was just like being infatuated with someone, being in the room when there’s 50 people and only that one person matters. Just being boo’d up, really.”

“Trip” was released in August from her self-titled debut album. It was written by Ella Mai & Varren Wade.
She said of the song, “I think a lot of the time in R&B music, a lot of it is about hurt and someone doing you wrong, but a lot of the time, we don’t talk about us doing someone wrong. For someone to be done wrong, somebody has to do you wrong, right? Or there has to be a person that’s doing wrong, if that makes sense. So, I decided to put myself in those shoes, because we’re all human. And it takes me a while to admit when I’m wrong. Not gonna lie. I can tell you when I’m right very easily, but I have to come around to it and it takes me a little while, so I thought I wanted to write a song about knowing how to apologize and knowing how to say, like, “It’s kinda my bad. I was maybe overthinking the situation or creating something in my head that didn’t actually exist,” which I think we all go through situations like that, so that’s how it came about.”
