- Esperanza Spalding Premieres Two New Songs “12 Little Spells” and “To Tide Us Over”
- American Jazz bassist Esperanza Spalding has dropped two new songs “12 Little Spells” and “To Tide Us Over” from her upcoming seventh studio album "Twelve Little Spells".
She will release one song per day for 12 days on her Facebook. Each one expresses to a specific part of the body.
This time, “12 Little Spells” is thoracic spine and “To Tide Us Over” is mouth.
The album is inspired from Reiki, which is the Japanese spiritual practice centered with healing through energy. She said, “non-scientific approach to how music, sound, and energy, when combined in specific ways, can have an effect on you.”
The songs were crafted in a castle in Italy where she spent the time with friends.
She explained about her mindset when writing these body-part-specific songs in an interview with Vanity Fair.
“When I was writing the hips [song], I would watch people, watch how the movement in their hips changed in different circumstances,” she said. “I was thinking, ‘What can I give to the hips?’”
The album "Twelve Little Spells" is due out digitally on October 19th. Until October 19th, check out her Facebook.
