MotoGP British GP: Aleix Espargaro Takes Pole Position, Enea Bastianini Wins Sprint Race in Silverstone
The Round 10 of MotoGP 2024, Monster Energy British Grand Prix took place at the Silverstone Circuit in Silverstone, UK on August 3, 2024.

In Qualifying, Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing) took pole position for the 2024 British MotoGP and a new Silverstone lap record with 1'57.309s.
This marks his second pole position of the season, following Catalan GP.
Ducati team, Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo) and Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo) took 2nd and 3rd position, respectively.
Jorge Martin (Pramac Ducati) was 4th and will start on the 2nd row along with Alex Marquez (Gresini Ducati) and Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM) Sunday's race,
Marc Marquez (Gresini Ducati) was 7th. Maverick Vinales (Aprilia Racing) crashed out at Farm corner late on in qualifying and ended up 8th.
Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) advanced to Q2 from Q1, and finally finished in 9th place.
Aleix Espargaro said, “This lap has been amazing! I did a really good lap with a soft tyre but it was not enough, I was behind the three factory Ducatis, and I said to myself you have to try, go full or nothing. The lap was just perfect, when I saw 57.3 I was laughing. It's unbelievable, I never though that with these conditions, because it's quite cold, with a soft front tyre, that we could reach this lap time.”- In the Sprint Race, Franco Morbidelli (Pramac Ducati) lost control under braking for Turn 1 at the start of the race, taking Marco Bezzecchi (VR46 Ducati) with him. Both riders waere taken to medical centre for check-ups.
Enea Bastianini claimed his first victory of the 2024 Sprit Race.
Jorge Martin finished in 2nd place and poleman Aleix Espargaro was 3rd.
Beginning of the race, Jorge Martin led a front group, including Aleix Espargaro, Enea Bastianini and Francesco Bagnaia.
Francesco Bagnaia crashed out at Turn 4 on lap 5.
Enea Bastianini took the lead off Jorge Martin on lap 6 and never gave up the position. Finally he won the Sprit Race.
This result, Jorge Martin cut the deficit to Francesco Bagnaia in the championship to just one point.
Marc Marquez ran behind the top group, but wash-out at Turn 16 took him out of the race on lap 8.
Brad Binder inherited the position and took 4th ahead of Pedro Acosta and Alex Marquez.
Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM) was 7th from Maverick Vinales.
Fabio Di Giannantonio (VR46 Ducati) bagged the last point on offer in 9th. - Enea Bastianini said, “I'm very happy. It has been a very good fight with Jorge [Martin]; we pushed on the limit, the lap times were crazy. The whole Sprint has been crazy. It's my first victory of the year, I'm so happy. I saw yesterday that my pace was good and Silverstone is one of my favourite tracks - it's fantastic. It was a difficult race because Jorge pushed a lot during the first few laps and it wasn't easy. Well, at the end I saw something different for me on the line and modified my approach in sector three. It was good! I was able to attack in the brake point and I was able to create some distance between him (Martin) for last laps… I am satisfied. Yeah, I push like a bastard and I think Jorge also pushed like a bastard. Yeah, we arrived on the limit and I hope for tomorrow it'll be better, I think Jorge pushed Fuel Map B, he was more on the limit compared to me. I arrived without the problem at the chequered flag.”
