Jessica Sanchez Releases New Song “Us” for Unity Against Anti-Asian Hate
- American Idol season 11 runner-up Jessica Sanchez released a new song “Us” to call attention to an increase in hate crimes against Asian American people.
On the track, she worked with R&B singer Ne-Yo American Idol season 4 alum Aj Rafael, YouTube celebrities Patrick Starrr, Liane V, Filipina television personality Ylona Garcia, and Black Eyed Peas member Apl De Ap. The accompanying music video was directed by Chris Ruel and Chris Soriano.
“People are actually taking a moment to kind of acknowledge what is going on and using their voice as well to spread awareness,” Jessica Sanchez told NBC 7 in San Diego. “So it makes me really, really happy.”
She continued, “It's super important to remind each other that, like, we have to find a solution and the solution is to bring each other together, and to unite and to support each other no matter what color, what age, what gender. We all have to come together and love each other and support one another, especially when people are being pushed down.”
- Jessica Sanchez shared on social media, “i wrote this song recently called “Us”. my inspiration was from all the things that have been popping up on my feed regarding the spike in discrimination and violence toward the Asian community since Covid. i will stand up with & for everyone that needs a voice, showing my support with words in the best way i can & following with action in any way i can. we hear you & we're here for you. let's stand together to continue to show our support & spread awareness to these issues. change starts with all of us 🤍”
