Active Child Performs at NPR Music Tiny Desk (Home) Concert
- American singer-songwriter Active Child appeared on NPR Music Tiny Desk (Home) Concert to perform “Hanging On”, “In Another Life” and “Cruel World”.
He played from a stunning room overlooking the San Gabriel Mountains in Pasadena, California.
Active Child shared on social media, “My Tiny Desk performance is now live! It’s quite an honor to be included in this now legendary series.
I first heard of tiny desk back in 2010, my early days backstage at the Blackcat in DC. It’s now blossomed into something very rare in the music community. A refuge for listeners and artists. Some of my favorite performances by my most treasured artists are from tiny desk.
I recorded and filmed this alone early on in the pandemic, the fires were raging around California and the smoke outside had become so thick that it blotted out the sun. It was at a point over this past year where the world felt truly chaotic.
This performance was an experiment in multi instrument looping in a live set, so at times you will hear instruments playing or voices singing that I have looped earlier in the performance.”
- “Hanging On” was released from his debut album “You Are All I See” in 2011. The song was covered by British singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding in 2012, who included the song on her second album “Halcyon”.
“In Another Life” and “Cruel World” are featured his latest album “In Another Life”, which was released last April.
“The initial songs are more about the wonder of everything in this next chapter in my life, and other tracks... are induced with fear of the void that may exist when it all comes to an end,” Active Child told Office Magazine about the album. “On a positive note, I think this time puts people in a space where they get to spend time with music as opposed to giving a passive listen.”
