ZAYN Releases New Album “ROOM UNDER THE STAIRS”
British singer-songwriter ZAYN released his fourth studio album “ROOM UNDER THE STAIRS” along wih a new music video for “Stardust” on May 17, 2024.
The album is his first LP in three years since the 2021 album “Nobody Is Listening”.
Also, it is the first release under his new label Mercury Records.
The album comprises a 15-track, produced by ZAYN, Dave Cobb, Gian Stone, James Ghaleb, Carter Lang, Rodaidh McDonald, German, and Kareen Loomax.
He began making the album in his home studio in rural Pennsylvania, and wrote the majority of the record on his own in physical isolation.
ZAYN said of the album in a statement, “This is my favorite album that I've made to date, mainly because it comes from a place of sheer honesty and vulnerability. I wanted each song to feel as if it was just me sitting beside you telling you how I feel, singing directly to you. It's raw and stripped back and the type of music I always hoped to make. Working with Dave Cobb has been an amazing experience. The way he's elevated the music is second to none, and he has done an incredible job helping me create this record. I hope we can take listeners on some whimsical, magical journey, and that they enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it.”
He added, “I think just being where I was at that time, staying away from things and living with my own thoughts inspired me to want to write something from that place. I've got to put this out as a whole body of work, it's something for myself, not even just for the world.”- He shared on social media, “I think the intention behind this album fully is for the listener to get more insight on me personally as a human being. My ambitions, my fears. And for them to have a connection with that. And that's why it's so raw, you know, it's just me writing this. I didn't want anybody else to be in between me and the music, and the music and the people listening to it.”
He continued, “I don't even know what to call it genre-wise, because I don't want to say country, because I don't think it's country. I think it's like, my version of, like, blues. You can't really put them in a genre. They are just influenced by other music, but it's my version of it.” - ZAYN explained about some tracks for the album.
“What I Am”
“This song is the first release of a special project I've been working on for years.”
“Alienated”
“I wrote “Alienated” first, and that kind of helped me mold and shape the sound even for like, the way I wanted to approach the sound of my own voice and sonic sound of everything else, like the guitars. I don't even know what to call it genre-wise, because I don't want to say country, because I don't think it's country. I think it's like, my version of, like blues. You can't really put them in a genre. They are just influenced by other music, but it's my version of it.”
