Donate to support families affected by the crisis in Ukraine ➔ Toddy Releases Debut Song “Wounded”
Vancouver-based comedian and opera singer-songwriter Toddy released their debut song “Wounded” along with a music video on March 6, 2024.
The track was written by Kevvy Maher, Louise Burns, and Toddy. Produced by Louise Burns and Kevvy Maher.
The accompanying video was directed by Derek Janzen.
“Wounded” is very strategically written to be for several different types of relationships whether it be family, romantic or friendship. Inspired by abusive relationships Toddy has been in, they wanted a wide variety of victims to be able to put themselves into this song.
Toddy said of the song, “My song 'Wounded' is inspired by abusive relationships that I have been in. I wanted to capture that specific time when you first know you are in an abusive relationship but don't know how to leave it. The song isn't an anthem or hope. It's a raw take on the complexities of abusive relationships.”
They continued, “This song can be interpreted for several different types of abusive relationships whether it be family, romantic, friendship. I wanted listeners to be able to put themselves into this song and make it theirs.”- They added, “I've worn many hats in my performing career. I studied opera, performed stand-up comedy professionally, won a drag TV show, and now I am finally back to music. This song is a love letter to the voice as an instrument. I wanted my first track to really show the scale of this project. I do a lot, but I don't do anything half-assed.”
Toddy shared on social media, “This track was the first one I wrote in studio with Louise Burns and Kevvy Maher. I'm so pumped that 2 years later we can finally share it with y'all!”
Toddy first took their name from what they used to call their childhood teddy bear. -
