Donna Lewis Releases New Song “The Mark”
Welsh singer-songwriter Donna Lewis released a new song “The Mark” on December 8, 2023.
The song is taken from her upcoming sixth studio album “Rooms With A View” and charts her year long journey through breast cancer.
The track was written and produced by Donna Lewis and Holmes Ives.
“This song is all about the experience I had with the radiation treatment for Breast Cancer,” Donna Lewis said of the song. “Before undergoing radiation treatment for breast cancer, my body was mapped with four tattoos marking the exact spot where the radiologist would direct their beams. Mine were tiny, but my first tattoos ever! The anxiety leading up to the first session was overwhelming, and there were quite a few, 5 days a week for 5 weeks. But once I was on that treatment table, it transformed into my meditation time. With every deep breath in, holding the breath, and then the exhale, I became attuned to the red radiation lights, imagining them obliterating every speck of cancer dust in my body.”- The new album is expected to be released in February 2024. It is her first album in nine years since the 2015 album “Brand New Day”.
Donna Lewis worked with Washington, D.C.-based composer Holmes Ives. In the pasts, she collaborated with Holmes Ives on the 2021 song “I Told You So”.
She made the album remotely. Donna Lewis said, “The instrumental tracks that Holmes Ives sent me coaxed the lyrics from the pages of my journals and inspired an album of stories, unlocking fears, and the climb to a healthier me -mind, body and spirit.”
