Arlo Parks Announces Deluxe Edition of “My Soft Machine”, Premieres Cover of Jai Paul's “Jasmine” on BBC Radio 1
London-based singer-songwriter Arlo Parks has announced that the deluxe edition of her sophomore album “My Soft Machine” will be released on December 8, 2023.
The deluxe edition is a two-disc set, where the latter includes six new recordings.
From the album, she premiered a cover of British singer-songwriter Jai Paul's “Jasmine” on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Clara Amfo.
The original version was released by Jai Paul in 2012. It was later re-released on his debut album “Leak 04-13 (Bait Ones)” in 2019.
The cover version of the song was produced by Dave Okumu. The accompanying music video was directed by Joel Barney.
Arlo Parks said of the song, “'Jasmine' has always moved me deeply - to me, it's this shadowy, timeless, and incredibly profound love song. I really wanted to draw out the yearning of the lyrics and pay homage to an artist who has had a seismic impact on me and on culture. Receiving Jai Paul's blessing to create this cover with Dave Okumu was one of the highlights of my creative journey so far.”- Arlo Parks told Clara Amfo about the song, “I'm so so excited to be releasing this cover of 'Jasmine' by Jay Paul. This record really changed the way that I look at music and there's this really dark and moody romance to it. I've been in love with this song for like 10 years since I was a kid and it's beautiful to be able to do it justice and have Jay Paul's blessing as well.”
