Bruce Hornsby Releases Three Songs “Line in the Dust (2023 Remaster)” , “Evening Sun” (Unreleased Song) & “Shadow Hand (Live)”
American singer-songwriter Bruce Hornsby will release a new album “The Spirit Trail 25th Anniversary Edition” as the 25th anniversary edition of his 1998 album “Spirit Trail” on October 27, 2023.
The album includes four unreleased songs, ten previously unreleased live performances, and the original double album.
From the album, he released three songs, “Line in the Dust (2023 Remaster)” , “Evening Sun”, and “Shadow Hand (Live)” on October 6, 2023.
“Line in the Dust (2023 Remaster)” is a remaster version of the first track of the original double album disc 2, “Line in the Dust”.
Bruce Hornsby said, “This song was the one my managers and I thought was the single off the record but the label disagreed. They picked 'The Great Divide' because it had a fiddle on it, reminding them of Dave Matthews Band, who was all the rage at that time.”
- “Evening Sun” is one of four previously unheard songs. Another unreleased song “Living in the Sunshine” was released last month.
Bruce Hornsby said, “The working title for Evening Sun was 'Van 84.' 'Van' because it had a Van Morrison feeling to me and '84' because the tempo of the song is 84 beats per minute (bpm). It's safe to say that this song will be the only one in my corpus that will use the term 'hot pants.'”
“Shadow Hand (Live)” is a live version of the third track of the original double album disc 2.
This live recording features Bruce (dulcimer, vocals), JT Thomas (organ), Gibb Droll (guitar), John Mailander (mandolin), Chad Wright (washboard) and JV Collier (schmutz).
Bruce Hornsby said, “When my sons were five or six, they had imaginary friends and would tell us at dinner about their activities with these friends. I thought this was a bit odd until I realized that when living alone in my college years I probably talked to the air or the wall myself. This song was written about all that.”
