New Friends Covers Radiohead's “High and Dry”
Canadian indie alt-pop band New Friends, consisting of Stefan Boulineau (vocals), Cole Wilson (guitar), Ayden Miller (keyboard), Conrad Galecki (bass) and Nico Elias (drums), released a cover of British rock band Radiohead's “High and Dry” on August 25, 2023.
The original version of the song was released by Radiohead as double-A side single alongside “Planet Telex” from their second album “The Bends” in 1995. The song became Gold disc in the UK.
The track was written by Ed O'Brien, Colin Greenwood, Jonny Greenwood, Thom Yorke and Philip Selway. The cover version was produced by New Friends and Andrew Martino.
New Friends said, “[Radiohead] has inspired us in so many ways inside and outside the studio. When looking through their catalogue, one of the songs that spoke to us immediately was 'High and Dry' because it encapsulated a lot of the melodic inspiration and subject matter we have as a group when we make original music. It has always been one of our favourite songs and we're excited to share such a special song to some new listeners who may have never heard it before.”
- The band added, “Once we started working on this cover, we were able to find new things about Radiohead and the song that we didn't see nor hear before, which is inspiring us to continue taking more risks and be more unique when creating our own original music.”
