Australian singer-songwriter Dean Lewis teamed up with American singer-songwriter Julia Michaels to release a new song “In A Perfect World” on June 29, 2023.
This marks the first collaboration between Dean Lewis and Julia Michaels.
The song is the first single off of his upcoming third studio album.
The track was written by Dean Lewis, Julia Michaels, and Nolan Sipe. Produced by Nolan Sipe and Dean Lewis.
The pair recored the song in 24 hours in Los Angeles.
“When I found out Julia Michaels and I would be going into the studio I was so excited!” Dean Lewis said of the collaboration. “Julia is widely known as one of the best songwriters in the world and let me tell you she certainly lived up to that. Once we were in the studio, I played her my idea - a verse and a chorus. Julia's reaction was, 'I love the verse, but I hate the chorus.' We talked a lot, and I explained my situation and what I was going through -I recently had just gotten out of something, Julia said 'well what if in a perfect world you stayed?' What flowed from there was just mind blowing, I've never seen anyone who can write like that, every idea she had was amazing. The chorus she came up with was insanely good so of course this is what we have used, and it just worked so well!”- He shared on social media, “Excited to announce my new song 'In A Perfect World' is a duet with the incredible Julia Michaels!!! The last few years I've been pushing so many people away, and a few weeks ago, Julia and I got in the studio in LA and Julia heard my verse and said 'well what if in a perfect world you stayed'. It was an unbelievable experience to write this song with one of the best songwriters and artists in the world, and I'm so excited for everyone to hear it!!!”
