  • Olivia Dean Premieres New Song “UFO” on BBC Radio 1

  • London-based singer-songwriter Olivia Dean premiered a new song “UFO” on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Clara Amfo.

The song is taken from her upcoming debut album, which is expected to be released in 2023
It was written by Olivia Dean, and Matt Hales who also produced the track.
Olivia Dean said of the song, “'UFO' was born out of a conversation over a cup of tea with Matt Hales (co-writer and producer). We were joking about how love is a 'sexy problem' to have and thought it would be funny to try and put it in a song. I wanted it to feel intimate and existential and so we kept it simple with guitar and a vocoder. It's a shy love song, thoughts I would normally keep to myself but am learning to share.”
  • She told Clara Amfo about the song, “This sounds like the next step from that. And it's about okay, now I'm gonna tell them which is a whole different. Because I'm actually a very shy person and telling someone I love them is just like the scariest thing in the world. So this song is like, little shy alien being like, 'Can I land here? Maybe it's okay.'”
She continued, “I think I wrote this before 'Dange', this was one of the kind of first tracks I wrote for this project that's coming. And it was one of those ones that just came really quickly. It didn't really have to be over thought it was just like, 'Oh, got the guitar up.' So I just kind of left it how it is. And I'm really proud of that.”
She added, “I mean it's very different from 'Dange', because this one's giving vocoder, guitar kind of thing but I just love all kinds of music and I never want to feel like boxed into being one kind of artists. I just want to just have fun.”
